Bebington finished 3rd in Div 4 last year and as that club's 1st team, were clearly used to playing with each other. Chester, on the other hand, fielded a large number of new, young players and took most of the first half to find their positions and get used to each others' playing style. The score was 4-0 to Bebington at half time thanks to several well-executed short corners and some fluid breaks.
However, the 2nd half was a different game. Building on passing and positioning practiced in the first half, Chester played a much more solid game and only conceded 1 goal in the half. We got very close to clawing one back at several points, especially when a slicing cross from Megan offering a great chance to score was narrowly missed from being slipped in at the far post.
Everyone made a great effort especially the younger girls, many of whom had to play out of position. A promising start against tough opposition.
