Saturday saw Chester battling for a win against rivals Timperley who coming into the game were sat in 3rd position in the league. From the outset the two sides were evenly matched, with a to-and-fro nature of play. Skipper Fran Gibson worked tirelessly with Roz Bingham in the centre of the park to support both the attack and the defence.
Timperley had their best chance when their forward looped the ball over Chester’s prone goalkeeper, but luckily defender Siobhan Henn was in behind to deny the goal up near the crossbar. However Chester soon started to dominate, with left half Emma Blair making several penetrative runs into the opposition’s 25. Despite their best efforts, Chester were unable to put a mark on the scorecard in the first half.
In the second half, Chester were awarded several penalty corners, one of which was converted by Becky Neary on the far post after the ball was slipped left to Henn. The drama continued to unfold when midfielder Helen Harper came out on the wrong side of a bad challenge, forcing her to sit out the remainder of the game.
A fantastic result for coaches Paddy Bingham and Pat Wells who look forward to leading the squad in a repeat performance next week against a strong Lancaster side.
