Chester suffer a 3-1 loss hosting top of the league Liverpool Sefton
Chester were unfortunate not to gain a better result from this match, which was tight throughout
Skipper Fran Gibson was Chester’s sole goal-scorer, deflecting the ball past the Sefton keeper to give Chester the lead in the first half.
However, Sefton soon fought back, forcing ‘keeper Sophie Parker to quickly step off her line to hold off a few one-on-one breaks, and defender Laura Houlston to clear a shot off the line. Despite Chester’s best efforts, the high intensity of Sefton’s attacks led to them scoring by wrong-footing Parker at close range.
Later in the half Sefton doubled their lead through another goal in open play.
In the second half Chester put the pressure on the Sefton defence, with little success.
To round it off, Sefton were awarded a penalty corner late in the second half, which they converted after Parker initially saved the first shot.
A disappointing loss for Chester after a gutsy team performance.
