After a solid preseason the ladies first team were all excited to put all the practice into action against Harrogate for the first league game of the season. Newbies to the first team squad; Elsa, Tilly and Rosie all made dynamic additions to the squad and everyone was excited to see what they would bring! With a new warm up completed and coach Joe’s first team talk done the squad lined up on the pitch ready to get a win!
The first half started well with Chester piling on the pressure but after a few attempts on goal the score remained 0-0. Both teams had periods on top however it was Chester who drew first blood with a dynamic move up the pitch and a cheeky touch by newcomer Tilly to sneak the ball into the back of the net. Not a team to rest on their laurels Chester pushed on securing another goal by Fran Hughes from a short corner just before the half time whistle!
Despite a positive team talk at half time Chester started slow and conceded early in the second half - thankfully this provided the wake up call needed and Chester pushed on again to regain control of the game. Goals in the second half came from working the ball from defence to attack in fluid periods of team play. The first came to Emily Garner inside the D for a first time shot, round the keeper into the back of the net. The second from a reverse stick cross that landed at the feet of a well positioned Tilly for her second of the day! The game ended with a fantastic result of 4-1 - what a great start to the season - can’t wait to see what the next 5 months brings...
