Chester Men's 6s vs Whitchurch Men’s 2s

Chester 6 - Whitchurch 0

In their first home fixture of the new season the mighty 6s faced a very young and fit looking Whitchurch team at the Chester fortress. Building on a positive momentum gained from a last-minute win the week before a combination of veteran players, super dads and junior club members strolled onto the pitch at Chester filled with confidence. Suffice to say it was confidence well placed. In a game marked by high energy movements of the ball end to against a surging group of Whitchurch youngsters the Chester side met half time 3 goals up having played some excellent passing hockey. After a stiff half time talk reminding the team not to take things for granted the second half was a tough game of attrition with the Chester side winning the battle and netting another three goals. The final score of 6-0 did not reflect the effort put in by the opposition but was testament to a will to win that is becoming the hallmark of this Chester team. Highlights of the game were: A hat trick of goals from Chris Curry with major assists from guesting player Sam Moulson, a dribbling young master. A cool, collected and skilful display in defensive tackling by ninja like Josh Curry. A return to the game and superb form by storming goal keeper Pete Clewes. A masterful midfield marshalling job by Neil Gordon who was at the centre of most of the sublime passing play (Neil also played a key role in short corners and netted 2 goals!) A surging run by Captain Pete Lloyd-Brown from the Chester 23-yard line powering around 4 opposition players to the opposition 23-yard line where a thundering pass was ably tipped in by veteran forward trickster Pete Cunnington. A hustling and abrasive defence by Tom Arnold and Dave Spender the pick of which was Big-D picking a ball out of the air in front of goal and then 3D skilling it out of danger. Sanj Bansal, Ed Lewis and Andy Hampson put in a major shift and had the sweat to show it! All in all, a major effort by the whole team. Onward to Llandudno next week...
