Chester Men 6s vs Runcorn Men 3s
Chester 2 - Runcorn 0
With a last minute sickness roll of key players this was a hard fought but good natured fixture which gained a well deserved 3 points for the mighty 6.
Played on the brand new pitch at the Chester Catholic High School the match was marked by a low conversion rate on goal with the result ground out though sheer effort and determination. The game was dominated by heavy defensive battles in the Chester half with Pete Clewes, Pete Lloyd-Brown, Pete Walmsley and Jamie Dennis working flat out to keep a surging Runcorn attack at bay followed by battling runs from Ed Lewis, Neil Gordon, Barry Standen, Dave Spender, Pete Cunnington, Chris Curry, Mark Blackie and Bob McCombe into the oppositions 23. After many attempts on the Runcorn goal eventually first Mark Blackie and then Ed Lewis were able to slip a ball past the opposition keeper. Runcorn never gave up and the game was played at a high tempo until the last whistle. An exhausted 13 players staggered home a job well done!
