A somewhat depleted team endured the lengthy trip to Bangor on one of the coldest days of the year so far to encounter a strong, athletic side eager to improve on their fourth place in the league. Under considerable pressure from the start Chester conceded a most unlucky goal from a deflected pass driven into the circle which was impressively parried by a full length dive from keeper Sillett who was unable to prevent the ball from being diverted into the goal. This proved to be theme of the game with Chester defending superbly for long periods managing to thwart the agile and skillful forwards as they rampaged into the circle. Outstanding keeping from Sillett and fine defensive performances from Nicholas, Knight, Uddin and Evans kept the game under control until Chester grabbed a fine goal from Disley whose venomous reverse stick shot deceived the keeper. The students scored another somewhat fortuitous goal after a series of wobbly passes enabled the ball to be flicked home. Disley, Nicol and Olliers also worked tirelessly with enthusiasm and skill in a determined midfield display that significantly contributed to the cause – many thanks to them for being prepared to travel to support the 5ths! Two talented 14 year Badgers Mattie Duffield and Jake Wundke enjoyed their debut with the team displaying their good technical ability and enthusiasm and playing a full part in Chester’s excellent performance in holding the students to a narrow 2-1 victory when many other sides have travelled only to lose heavily against this team
