Inspired by the Mat Oakley's charismatic leadership Chester’s players responded to the challenge of conceding the first goal after they had dominated the opposition without managing to score. Another scintillating attack led to Chris Jones smoothly flicking past the keeper to score Chester’s first goal. The second goal was truly a family affair with Tony Nicholas winning the ball at left back and passing to Chris Nicholas who cleverly beat two players before crashing a fine pass into brother Richard Nicholas, playing for the first time in 12 weeks, to control the ball before sliding it subtly past the stranded keeper.

Fine passing from Matt Oakley and Chris Nicholas enabled Richard Nicholas to score his second before departing the game to recover. An industrious display from Hall finally led to him making an outstanding pass to Richard Selley who flipped the ball into goal from close range. Thanks to Oakley for helping the team to gain 3 important points in their first game of the New Year.
