You would expect nothing short of blood, sweat and tears with the return of Matthew Thombs to a Chester jersey - and thankfully it was Sefton who were left in the doldrums following this frantic and fiery encounter.

Chester dominated the first half with a commanding performance by Andy Murphy. The home side created several clear chances before Michael Howard slotted home from a Ben Scott corner. The second half was ignited when an altercation between players led to a spate of yellow cards... eight in total. Sefton then equalised but in the dying moments Chris Nicholas snatched a late winner for the second week running. Chester 2's march on.
