Chester's 1st XI hosted league leaders Formby who travelled to the County Officers hoping to keep their undefeated streak in tact. It was a cagey opening half, with chances at both ends ultimately culminating in a penalty stroke for the away side.
This was converted and a second was grabbed by Formby after slack defending and poor concentration from the blues' defence. With less than a minute left in the first half, Captain Dave Hughes shelled a pill deep into the Formby 'D' forcing an error and own-goal to draw one back.
Chester were in the ascendancy and they looked like it was still their game to lose. Sadly, three or four decisions didn't go their way and Formby were left to slot home unchallenged in bizarre circumstances.
Chester will be happy that they didn't throw the towel in, showing great character in the dying minutes to pull back three unanswered goals from Tom Warburton, Paul Cieplak and the ever-firing Brett Dempster.
Finishing on a high, next week's away trip to Bowdon is as important as they come...
