The Deva side welcomed high-flying Alderley Edge to the fortress on Saturday 3rd February, hoping to make up for the loss suffered to the Cheshire outfit in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

The game got off to a fast start as Miles Margetson was fouled in the opposition D resulting in a Penalty Stoke, calmly finished by the ever reliable Jonny Roper. The away side quickly mitigated the home side’s advantage as their clinical number 9 found himself in the right place at the right time and calmly finished into the open net.

Chester continued to be the more positive side and this attaching intent awarded the home side a Penalty corner, which was slotted nearly into the bottom right corner by big Jim Challenor.

The second half provided almost more cards then chances for the home side, with Chris Myles and Max Jones getting sent to the naughty step for green and yellow card offences respectively. The stand out chance to seal all 3 points fell to Duncan Langston who slid the ball past the sprawling Black & White’s keeper - but was denied by the post.

Alderley Edge continued to turn up the pressure, however the notorious Joe Laws made several excellent saves to ensure his net would not be breached for a second time in the match.

Overall it was an outstanding performance from Chester to ensure their first victory of 2018, next up is the short away trip up to Durham, with the Royals hoping to do the double over their North East rivals.
