Chester Men 1 vs York Men 1
Chester 3 - 2 York
Chester welcomed York on a cold November morning for a battle between two medieval cities. The game started slowly with both teams trying to get a foothold in the game. York won a couple of early short corners, both of which man of the match Matty "Frano" Francis managed to successfully save. Chester threatened to get in promising positions from long ranges passes with no real chances materialising. The breakthrough came when Jim Channelor found Brett Dempster with a short pass down the left hand touchline, who cut inside, beat two York players and found former Wales U13s international Dave Hughes in the dee. Hughes took everybody by surprise, opting to shoot forehand, catching the York keeper off guard and finding the bottom corner. Early in the second half Jim Channelor doubled Chester's lead with a low drag flick from a short corner, despite warning from York's defenders to "watch out for the big ginger one". The goal sparked York in to action who suddenly looked dangerous on the counter attack. A fast breakaway lead to a penalty stroke being awarded which York successfully converted. After several chances went begging (not mentioning any names Bluey) Chester restored their two goals lead when former Wigan HC stalwart James Nairn finished a strong Chester move with a neat finish. Again York reacted and reduced Chester's lead with a scrappy goal from a short corner. Chester regained composure and managed to see out the final 14 minutes of the game without either team adding to the score line. The win means Chester have now won 3 games in a row following victories over Wakefield and Sheffield Bankers in the previous 2 weeks.
