Chester Mens 1 vs Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Mens 1
Chester 5-3 Whitley Bay and Tynemouth.
Chester's search for their first league win of the season saw them face unbeaten Whitley Bay and Tynemouth at home. The visitors made a good start but Chester went ahead through Brett Dempster and stretched the lead with a drag flick from James Challenor. As the first half wore on the Blues created more opportunities as they carved the opposition defence open repeatedly and Club chairman Simon Jones made it 3-0 before the break. Chester's domination continued after half time as Brett Dempster made it four with around half an hour left to play. Whitley Bay pushed players forward seeking a response and managed to score three goals in a frantic eight minutes. With the score at 4-3 and the momentum with the visitors, the Chester players had to dig deep to preserve their lead and keeper Matty Francis made some important saves as Whitley Bay were unable to penetrate the defence any further. James Challenor then scored another flick from a penalty corner to take the sting out of the game and Chester saw out the final minutes to record their first win of the league campaign. Barring the eight minute spell where the goals were conceded this was a superb display with strong performances all over the pitch. Man of the match - Ben Scott: Looked at home in a new position of centre back with strong tackles, tight marking and interceptions galore.
