Chester were looking to keep up the promotion chase on a balmy afternoon. The side took to the field with coach Mat Oakley’s team talk demanding a good performance. In a devastating opening spell Chester went two goals up. Ben Scott rounding the keeper and firing home and Dave Hughes using his quick hands to good effect. However Wakefield did not capitulate and were able to produce a good save from Keeper Dafydd Jones and scored from a swift counter attack. The level of hockey deteriorated and Chester made a number of unforced errors.

Chester started the second half in full control and Ben Scott bagged his second, However Wakefield scored from a short corned and jumped on a defensive mistake. However the result was never in doubt, Brett Dempster had a goal disallowed before Dave Hughes and Adam Cliff sealed the tie. Wakefield scored a late goal to make the final few minutes a little tense, however Chester controlled the game and even threatened to score. Harrogate beat promotion rivals Didsbury and Chester are now promoted to the Northern Premier League after a fantastic season.
