Chester Men1 vs Ben Rhydding Men 1
Chester won 3-1
James Nairn 2
Simon Jones 1
Chester travelled to the runaway league leaders on Saturday and inflicted their only home defeat of the season. Chester were outstanding from the off, coach Matt Oakley set the side up to be tough to break down whilst maintaining creativity in key areas. Chester, inspired by young Welsh international Duncan Langston cut through the opposition and set up James Nairn to open the scoring. 5 minutes later Chester doubled their lead as Chris Myles opened up the defence for a second time for Simon Jones to steal a predatory goal. Ben Rhydding applied alot of pressure but the Chester defenders were resolute in their application. They were however able to carve out several opportunities and netted at the far post.
The second half saw Ben Rhydding turn up the pressure. Defenders Nathan Ogden and Neil Macleod were outstanding, repeatedly intercepting attacks. As the game wore on Dafydd Jones the veteran keeper made several spectacular saves to maintain Chester's position. As the game came to its climax Ben Rhydding removed their keeper to throw on an additional outfield player as a desperate throw of the dice. It backfired and James Nairn latched on to an incisive pass to complete the victory.
