Chester were excited at the thought of playing on the Olympic pitch which was re-laid at the Sheffield club. Australian, Brett Dempster made a sparkling debut re-joining Chester after a period back home. In a tense first 5 minutes Dafydd Jones the veteran Chester keeper sustained a significant calf injury. However, John Roper settled the side with a penalty corner flicked into the bottom corner. John Roper then won a penalty stroke with a drag flick which struck a defender on the line. Dave Hughes used his trademark quick hands to slot home the second. Keeper Dafydd Jones made a good short corner save before Hallam breached the goal on the stroke of half time.
Chester dominated the second half, punishing Hallam ill-discipline. James Nairn and Brett Dempster marauded across the midfield and Rob Cobain tackled tenaciously. It was the Australian who set up Simon Jones for the third before Ben Scott provided a pin point pass for Adam Cliff to slot home against his former club. A comfortable win for Chester.
