Chester started the new year well by negotiating a tough Harrogate fixture. Chester opened the scoring with a blistering penalty corner from James Challenor. It looked like the visitors would run away with the game, but Harrogate rallied and a clever corner routine wrong footed the Chester defence. Harrogate applied the pressure, however Chester were able to withstand the pressure and reorganised at half time.

Harrogate capitalised from an early short corner, which served to galvanise the Chester squad. Led by man of the match Paul Cieplak, Chester tore through Harrogate. James Challenor equalised within minutes and then Andy King smashed a reverse stick shot past the opposing keeper to open his account for the season. The Chester forward line then applied the pressure to provide Paul Cieplak with the opportunity to finish the game. Three points and second in the league.
