Chester hosted a strong Newcastle side. Chester were breached early by a Newcastle penalty corner, caused by some brisk attacking play. There was a spell where the visitors generated several more penalty corner opportunities however the Chester defence was resolute and increasingly organised, The home side moved onto the front foot and captain Paul Cieplak displayed some fine attacking form. John Roper converted a Chester penalty corner after 20 minutes.
Chester played out the second half in full control, however they were unable to pass an excellent Newcastle keeper who produced a string of fine saves. Newcastle only threatened occasionally and man of the match Hew Barret dominated the midfield. Chester should have won however the game remained even
