Chester went into the game on the back of a rousing speech by captain Cieplak who demanded nothing less than 3 points. Chester started well against a well organised side who pressed energetically. Jones broke the deadlock with a sharp deflection in front of goal to please the homes crowd. Keeper Jones made 2 fine penalty corner saves to allow Chester to take the lead into the break.
Early in the second half Murray bulldozed his way through and slotted home to double the score, however Lancaster showed their tenacity by scorning twice to level the score after some poor marking by the Chester Defence. However this galvanised the home side and they swiftly re took the lead through Langston. Man of the match Barrett then delivered the killer pass after a blistering break from defence for Murray to slide home. The ever threatening Murry then sealed Lancaster’s fate when the Keeper upended him in the goalmouth. Hughes calmly stepped up to convert the resulting penalty stroke with his fast hands. Top scorer Challenor then compounded the visitors misery by rifling a drag flick passed a flailing keeper.
