The first half was very even, with Bowdon striking first before John Roper slotted home in cool fashion. Bowdon then went on to grab two more before the break, but the possession was even and arguably the majority of the play was in the visitor's half.
Chester drew another goal back when Brett Dempster's wily play set Steve Edmonds through with just the 'keeper to beat and they looked to be on the up with a number of close penalty corner attempts. Sadly a lapse in concentration - coupled with clinical finishing from Bowdon - saw five goals shipped in ten minutes, all the while injuries creeping in up and down the pitch.
Coach Steve Edmonds was still more than pleased with the fight and resolve of the boys in blue; Dave Hughes exercising his demons to emphatically score from the penalty spot following the previous week's miss.
Chester face an away trip to Crewe in their first league game of the season this Saturday.
