Hull O45's vs Chester O45's

Hull 3 - 3 Chester at Full Time

Hull 0 - 2 Chester after penalty flicks

Chester O45's ladies masters squad travelled to Hull for the first round of the Cup which turned into an eventful, tense game. Chester didn't have a goalkeeper so played with a kicking back. Although Chester were able to secure 2 goals early on in the first half from open play, with Debbie Roper and Amy Brickland scoring, Hull struck back scoring both their goals from short corners. So it was 2-2 at half time. Following a tactical rethink at half time Chester decided to lose the kicking back and instead one of the outfield players kitted up and took on the role as keeper. Chester were dominant in the second half with numerous shots at goal but the Hull goalie played a brilliant game and kept the Chester Ladies out. A foul in the circle by Hull led to Chester being awarded a penalty flick and Amy Brickland stepped up to the spot and put it away. 3-2 to Chester. That is how it stayed until Hull broke through and won themselves a short corner 5 minutes from the end, and which was slotted neatly into the corner of the Chester goal. Chester had all the play for the rest of the game winning several long corners but just couldn't convert them. 3-3 at full time.

The cup rules state no extra time just straight to penalty flicks. Nici Gelder offered to go in goal for the flicks so Chester had a quick change of keeper. The first 2 flicks for both sides were saved. Up stepped Debbie Roper who neatly put away Chester's 3rd. Nici Gelder saved Hull's 3rd flick. Next up for Chester was Jane Bills who did a superb high flick into the back of the net leaving the Hull keeper no chance of saving it. The pressure was now on for Hull's 4th flick as they had to score to have any chance of saving the game. It was sent high to the Chester keeper's right but Nici Gelder was up to the task and made a stick save. Chester are through to the next round.
