Alderley Edge 5 - Chester 6

Player of the Match : Ryanne Bardgett

What a game! Chester ladies 2's travelled to Alderley Edge for a late afternoon start at 4.30pm. It was dark, it was cold, it was raining and there were thick black clouds above. This was the setting for what became an intense end to end game with some great hockey being played by Chester. Alderley Edge took first blood but this didn't deter Chester who kept their heads and continued to press the home team. The determination paid off and soon Chester had levelled the score. By now fireworks had started going off in the area around the pitch which added even more to the atmosphere on it. Chester continued to play some beautiful interlinking hockey which resulted in them slotting home 3 more goals before half time. Chester were leading 4-1 at half time.

Alderley Edge made tactical changes at half time and were playing a full press in the second half, making it difficult for the Chester defence to get the ball out. The intense pressure resulted in Alderley Edge scoring twice and this gave them added momentum. Chester's goalkeeper then suffered an injury so Chester played the last 20 minutes without a goalkeeper but instead with a kicking back. The defence were under constant pressure and Chester conceded another goal but then also managed to find the back of the net twice more. The home team scored the last goal of the match but it wasn't enough. Chester came away with a 6-5 win with Tilly Irvine bagging hat-trick, Ellen Barry getting a brace and Ryanne Bardgett also getting herself on the scoreboard with 1.
