Chester did not manage to play with their recent fluidity and were missing a couple of key players. However the side stuck to its task and Alex and Hari Bansil demonstrated their excellent development with a skillful display. It was Captain Chapman who opened the scoring with a sharply taken rebound. Macclesfield equalised from a penalty corner. In the second half Macclesfields fitness enabled them to counterattack however Chapman took the lead with a second volley that almost broke the net. In the final minutes a second controversial penalty corner gave the home side the equaliser.
