On Sunday 25th September we welcomed 'home' Olympic Gold Medalist and ex-Chester Hockey Club member Sam Quek

SINCE they won gold at the Rio Olympics, the Great Britain Women’s hockey team have faced a host of questions about their success.

But star defender Sam Quek could not have prepared for the grilling she received from children as young as five when she visited us on Sunday.
“She was asked everything from what her favourite dinosaur is to how much
she earns!” “When you get kids involved in these Q&A sessions they're anything but
predictable but Sam was great. It was a great day.”

Sam and GB men’s team player Phil Roper both helped out with a junior tournament and coaching at the club on Mannings Lane. Both Sam and Phil learned how to wield their hockey sticks at the club, and wanted to help inspire youngsters coming up through the ranks.

Everyone loved asking the pair questions and took turns putting Sam's gold medal around their necks. About 120 children took part in the event on Sunday.

Both Sam and Phil were very conscious of the fact that they are inspiring a new generation of children and couldn’t have done more to promote the sport.

It was an incredible day, huge thanks to the amazing Sam Quek and Phil Roper, truly inspiring individuals!
