West Cheshire Hockey Development Centre launched at Chester Hockey Club
Chester Hockey club were proud to host the launch of the West Cheshire and Wirral hockey development centre. This is the first hockey development centre in the North West of England aimed at Girls and Boys aged U12 and U 13. Over 60 young players and their parents, representing all the local clubs and schools attended the launch. Further training sessions will run on Fridays 4.45-5.45 pm at Cheshire Sports and Social Club, Plas Newton Lane, Upton, Chester, until Christmas. The development centre forms part of England Hockey's 'Single System' which is the new development pathway for players of all ages and abilities to reach their full potential.
The event was supported by England hockey with the official mascots Jess and Jasper making an appearance. Further details of the development centre are available via school PE departments. Players from all schools and clubs in the area are welcome to attend, just come along any Friday in September.
Two of Chester’s young players, Sophie Clough (16) and Sian French (17) were selected in the final 16 to represent Wales at the UK Schools Games which took place in Bath/Bristol from 28 - 31 August. The Games were run like a mini Olympics with 7 sports participating; Rebecca Adlington spoke at the opening ceremony which was very motivating for the youngsters! Dawn Nunes, a senior member of the Chester Ladies 2nd X1 is also acting as the Welsh team's physiotherapist.
