Chester Under 16 Girls Going Strong!

Chester under 16 girls had a successful Sunday morning in the EHB competition played at Deeside. They started with an impressive 4-0 win against Timperley. Rhiannon Jones scored 2 classic strikers’ predatory goals from a yard or 2 out and Captain Izzi Pugh also scored twice via powerful strikes from just inside the D. A very competitive contest with Liverpool Sefton followed. Izzi put Chester ahead in the first half following a period of Chester dominance and numerous short-corners. However with just 5 minutes of the match to go Liverpool equalised and the game finished 1-1. Special thanks goes to Kate Huber and Millie Dean who volunteered to play a game each in goal in the absence of our regular keeper. Rebecca Neary put in a very accomplished performance in defence and Kristina Roper’s close control and dribbling was a constant threat to the opposition. Whilst every player could be mentioned for their individual performance essentially the girls put in a superb team effort.

Chester Ladies 3s 3 - 1 Deeside 3s

Chester ladies 3rd team played Deeside 3's, with a shaky start to the second friendly game of the new season, Deeside managed to get past the defence early on in the match and scored a goal. With this goal waking the team up Chester soon strengthened and fought back with the first goal, scored by Dallas on a short corner with a small but powerful tap from the P spot, she snuck it past the goal keeper. By the end of the first half it was 1-1. Chester came out stronger after a half time team talk, with the defence strong Deeside were unable to get the ball over the halfway line. Chester fed the ball in many times wanting another goal. It soon came, Jo Cooper scored the second goal, with Chester going strong and only a few attacks made by Deeside on Chester's goal. The final goal was scored by Riannan Jones. On her very recent return to hockey, Chester voted Jo Bowles their player of the match. The final score was 3-1 to Chester. Well played ladies!

Junior Success

It has been a successful season for our juniors, the 1st XI beat Rotherham 8-0 a few weeks ago with nine players under 21. Junior international honours have been won and the club’s top three teams have all seen juniors secure places and play a major role in these teams. The club also launched a youth development side of fourteen and fifteen year olds boys who have competed well in the men’s league. Therefore, it came as no surprise at the club’s annual dinner dance and awards evening that the club member of the year went to Diana Ormandy who has coached and managed the boy’s youth teams for the past five years and whose junior side had yet another victory 10-5 in an exciting game with Northop Hall.
