Alderley Edge Men's 5s vs Chester Men's 6s - Saturday 28th January 2012

Lost 6-1
Scorer – Greg Lawlor

The late start of 4.30 on a cold Saturday night took its toll on Chester as they lost 4 key players before the start. Nonetheless they took on a young Alderley side and held their own for the first ten minutes. Then the home side went 2-0 up before Greg Lawlor hit a super shot from a tight angle that brought the visitors back into the game. Despite going down to another goal, Chester had a spell of five short corners in a row but they failed to capitalise on them. Alderley scored again from a quick breakaway making it 4-1 at half time, Chester rueing their missed chances. Alderley scored twice in the second half giving them an unassailable lead. Chester didn’t give up but the home side’s defence was solid and the visitors’ efforts were in vain. A good all round performance with little to show.

Chester Men's 6s vs Macclesfield Men's 4s - Saturday 21st January 2012

Lost 4-0

The home side were at sixes and sevens at the start of the match. Players took time to settle into their positions and Macclesfield took advantage of that. They scored three quick goals; two scored by their right winger who helped to make the third. Chester eventually got to grip with the situation but the damage was done. Macclesfield scored a fourth. In the last ten minutes Chester had six short corners but failed to convert them so the home side had their chances but unfortunately squandered them. Jon Crinson joined in the defence in the second half and Chester gave a solid performance keeping the score as it was at half time. The hosts forwards had chances but the Macclesfield defence was solid. This result has meant the side are now in the lower half of the league for the first time for two months.

Sale Men's 3s vs Chester Men's 6s - Saturday 14th January 2012

Lost 5-0

Chester travelled to Manchester to take on Sale, who have topped the league from the start of the season. Chester fielded a strong side and for the first 15 minutes held the league leaders giving them a testing time. Then, midway through the half, Chester rotated their midfield and this proved their downfall. Sale started to dominate the game and their pressure told as they scored three goals in quick succession. They were good, clinically taken goals tucked inside the posts. During the half time talk Chester identified their midfield weakness and this paid dividends. They held Sale back and created several chances themselves. Sale were frustrated by ‘keeper Jordan who made some fine saves. Sale scored a dubious fourth goal but made sure with a fifth later in the game. Chester lost but didn’t disgrace themselves - the score line favoured the home side a touch.

Chester Men's 6s vs Didsbury Men's 7s - Saturday 10th December 2011

Won 1-0
Scorers – Jon Crinson

This was certainly a game of two halves. In the first half Chester were all over their visitors Didsbury Northern. They had so much territory advantage but could not turn it into goals. The statistics speak for themselves: the Chester keeper only touched the ball twice in the first half, Chester had 8 short corners and 5 long corners yet they only scored one goal. This was a crisp shot from Crinson that came from one of the short corners. After the break Didsbury slowly came back into the game and good defending by Chester saw off several attacks. As the visitors grew in confidence Chester had to call on all their strength which saw them through to the end. A good contest that sees the Chester side move up to the middle of the table.

Chester Men's 6s vs Chester Men's 7s - Saturday 3rd December 2011

Won 3-2
Scorers – Greg Lawlor 2, Paul Bibby

Having lost their last encounter to the Club’s seventh team, the sixths were in a determined mood to set the records right. Initially the sixths took control of the game from the start and put together good passing moves that kept the youngsters under pressure. This gritty performance yielded the first goal scored by Greg Lawlor who put in a crisp shot thanks to a clever move started by Jerry Winter. His second goal was sublime as he scored from an acute angle down the right hand side and beat the ‘keeper at the far post. The sevenths responded with a goal before half time keeping the game open. Despite a great performance from 6ths ‘keeper Clewes, the 7ths scored an equaliser in the second half making the game a real nail biter. The 6ths showed passion and tenacity and Paul Bibby scored the winner making it honours even for this season.
