Chester Men's 3s vs Southport Men's 2s - Saturday 10th December 2011

Chester 3s never fail to disappoint, and it was goals, goals, GOALS again on Saturday. Against a robust Southport 2nd, who started the day 4th in the league, a youthful Chester side started brightly taking an early lead through R. Selly, the physicality of the game took some of the Chester side by surprise with W. Norris being up ended on a number of occasions as he stamped his authority on the Southport back line. After an unusually good spell Southport took the lead and ended the 1-3 up but with only 9 men on the pitch. Ropers rallying cry at half time ensured Chester displayed the spirit of Christmas and didn’t score until Southport where back up to full strength. W. Norris putting the finishing touches on some magical play from S. Williams to make it 2-3 and the comeback was confirmed with a beautifully weighted drag flick by Captain L. Done. Chester ensured the Christmas night out started on a high by smashing in a 4-3 at the death.

Bowdon Men's 4s vs Chester Men's 3s - Saturday 5th November 2011

The mighty Chester 3rd XI set off en masse for an early start at Bowdon in high spirits and looking forward to testing their skills against a free scoring Bowdon team on their tricky water based pitch. A very youthful Chester side made the trip, and they were thankful for the experience and wisdom Pete 'bang and the forwards gone' Sillett in goal, and Matt Ormont's man of the match performance in the back line. Chester's resilient youngsters grew into the match, and their free-flowing hockey put Chester in-front going into the break. The highlight of the half was Mike Mugford goal to opening the scoring, the student rounded off a neatly worked penalty corner. Tom Bell put in a season defining performance alongside Chris White in the heart of midfield with their solid tackling and crisp passing driving the team through to victory. The Scott brothers continued to entertain with their outstanding link-up play throughout. Mike Cooper's majestic reverse strike after a mazy dribble- at one point he actually considered striking the ball on his open side- capped off the victory and left the visitors jubilant.
