Animal Magic

Animal Magic is a small internal league for beginners of primary school age (usually around school year 3-6 / age 7-11), consisting of 6 teams, devised and governed by Chester Hockey Club and run, largely, by parents.
The teams (Chipmunks, Chimps, Cobras, Condors, Coyotes, and Crocs) play 7 aside games in a mini league at Chester Hockey Club during the main Hockey Season (September – March) on Saturday’s 17:00 – 18:00.
It’s aims are to:
- Be fun
- Allow players to develop the skills and techniques taught at training
- Let players experience being part of a team sport
- Be fair, inclusive, safe, positive and competitive

Match Day & League

Games are played each Saturday at the outdoor astro pitch at Abbey Gate College, starting at 5pm during the September to April hockey season. Participants congregate by the clubhouse to allow senior and junior games to complete safely. The games are 7-a-side without goalkeepers, with 2 halves lasting 10 minutes each. The pitch is split into three, with fair rotations of the pitches throughout the season. Each team will play 2 games each week.

Coaching during games is allowed and is often provided on pitch by coaches and umpires. Players will be asked to rotate through different playing positions.

Gum shields and shin pads are mandatory for participation in each game, hockey shoes are recommended. We advise players to ensure they have their named water bottles with them ready for half time and game changes.

Match fees are £5 per player each for each Animal Magic session.

Parental support is very welcome, we ask for parents to stay outside of the pitch, either by the shelter of the clubhouse or down the side of the pitch (viewing area).
